De-Clutter your life and lower stress levels

Removing complications in your life and maintaining a clutter-free environment will help you to enjoy a welcoming home, reduce stress levels and live a more organised and productive life.

At R & R For You we work out effective ways to help you get the most from your life.  Often the best way to start is to tackle the clutter within your home and which in turn leads to your lifestyle.  It can be a daunting task for you to undertake alone but we are here to make it happen for you and take it one step at a time.

Once de-cluttered the steps will lead to big improvements that will be easier and less time consuming to maintain in the future.

Your Home – Where do we spend most of our time outside work?  You guessed it, at home!  Take a look at these easy to follow suggestions:

The aim here is to simplify.  Rooms are more welcoming and it is easier to locate things if they are less cluttered.  The best place to start is by creating space on surfaces, worktops, shelves and on the tops of your furniture.  Be ruthless, do you need everything?  Can a family member, friend or charity make better use of anything?  On to the cupboards and draws next, you will be amazed how much space can be created.   Anything that you need to keep but rarely need access to can be boxed up labeled and put in the attic but keep an inventory of the items for easy access in the future.  Finally clear anything off the floor and please don’t just put it back in all the new space you have created.  Consider if you need everything!  Put things in piles of rubbish, charity or keep then finally place the items you have decided to keep into their new organised and uncluttered homes. Remember, 1 step at a time.

Wardrobes.  Is space an issue?Wardrobes are a great place to store things that you don’t want out in the open and because of this can easily become a place where you shove things just to keep them out of view.  Go through your cupboards – take everything out, clean it, and again put in piles.  Decided a specific place to store anything you decide to keep before you put it back in.  Label shoe boxes or even add a picture so you can access them easily.  Keep only the things that you love and use frequently.

Your Lifestyle – Decluttering the home is a great place to start but there are still more areas that can be looked into, especially a few easy changes to your lifestyle.

Kids – Bundles of joy but a whirlwind of chaos!  It can be hard enough remembering all the things you have to do in the day but add the kids schedule as well and now wonder things can become a little hectic.  Make sure you have the weekly schedule to hand and even consider checklists for each day so that things are not forgotten and you don’t have to go chasing after them!

Commitments.  All to often our lives are cluttered with all of the things that we need to do at home, work, school, with friends and family, hobbies…the list goes on.  It helps to see it all written down, are there things that you simply don’t have time to do?  Cut back if you need to and don’t forget, for many things help is only a phone call away.  Even consider checklists for each day so that things are not forgotten and you don’t have to go chasing after them!

Routines.  Get organised!  Many of us do not have any set routines in our daily lives and simply tackle the daily tasks haphazardly.  Without structure it can lead to chaotic days and a drop in productivity.  Instead, if possible try combining tasks together.  It’s helps to write down all of the families daily and weekly tasks and develop them into routines.  Again make sure the schedule is easily accessible. You might even find that routine brings a new sense of calm and order to your life.

How to Maintain Order Over the Long-Term?  Once you’ve successfully decluttered, whether it be one area or all the areas in your life, clutter will inevitably begin to creep back.  Keep on top of it or it will soon be back again.

Don’t ignore it.  It’s easy to put things off for another day, but it’ll save you time and effort in the long run if you deal with things immediately.

Just remember – Throw it out, donate it, or keep it!
